BERKSHIRES

I HAVE PURCHASED 5 BERKSHIRE AND THEY ARE GETTING BRED BY THE GLOUSTER OLD SPOT.Im sure these will be some of the best pigs ever raised. The Berk is known for its amazing meat and flavor and the GOS.,...well..im very partial to the breed. They are wonderful foragers and docile. They have big litters and are easy keepers and they are just plain cute and so active...unlike Fannie who lays in the barn waiting to be fed.
She is  a pig named  "FANNIE" who is the grand champion of the VA state fair...she is the fattest, laziest pig i have ever seen. She is ready to have piglets anyday. These will be a great cross of Hamshire and GOS..the last time I crossed hamshires with GOS, it was amzing , they were great pigs.
I just weaned 2 litters from Ollie and Mabel..they had 22 pigs between them and raised them well, they are all thriving, eating like."pigs" and being sold to farmers for breeding and feeders. I have only 10 left and have promised these to someone..so they are all gone.
April is here and its time to start planting the garden. I plowed up a huge garden this year and plan to grow all the vegetables and herbs that I possibly can. I plan on canning alot of produce.
Im getting ready for the farmers markets, Ill be at Penn Park and Mead Ave in Charlottesville on tue and wed afternoons, Im also bringing my soon to be famous sausage pies. Im making these really rustic, farmhouse pies with all homegrown good stuff in them, they will be called TIN ROOF PIES
and they are so good...like a pot pie/sheperds pie...farm tart..pie.  Get in line and get you one.
